The city of Murcia and the Kalundborg (Denmark) are the municipalities in which pilot projects will be carried out.
The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, today received some thirty experts from Denmark, Finland, Belgium, Switzerland, France and Spain who have come to the capital of the Region to develop the European project 'Valuewaste', aimed at changing the schemes of biowaste management and find new ways of feeding.
The project has 17 partners, among which the City of Murcia and the City Council of Kalundborg (Denmark), municipalities in which the pilot projects will be carried out.
Murcia has the support of Ferrovial for the implementation of good practice in the local area and the project is led by the Technological Center of the Environment of the Region of Murcia (Cetenma).
"We are living an environmental revolution in which sustainability is a condition of the future.
One third of the food produced in the world ends up in the garbage.
We have the responsibility to use resources efficiently, find new ways to use waste and put technology and research at the service of sustainability, "said José Ballesta.
This project proposes solutions to problems such as the management of bio-waste generated in the municipality, as well as the search for alternative sources for human and animal food.
Derived from the above, a leading technology in waste management, creation of new jobs and a change in awareness and legislation regarding food and waste in the European Union will be developed.
Selective collection in supply areas and 170 restaurants
Among the actions that will be carried out within the pilot project, the City will collaborate with Ferrovial for the selective collection of waste in the neighborhood of La Flota, in the eight municipal supply squares and 170 restaurants or bars.
There will be showcookings in the gastronomic classroom of the veronica market, communication campaigns related to the selective collection of waste and, together with the City Council of Kalundborg, advertising campaigns, workshops, workshops, talks, etc. will be developed.
The project has a budget of € 10,863,876, being financed by the Horizon 2020 Program at € 8,375,422.
For the 2018 call, only two H2020 projects were financed at the European level by the General Directorate for Research and Innovation of the European Commission, with Murcia being the one with the largest budget.
