The UCAM today hosts the closing day of the International Congress of Rare Diseases.
Throughout the morning, different health professionals have participated, who have presented their views on various rare diseases and their respective treatments.
David Araujo, professor of the Degree in Medicine at the University of Santiago de Compostela, spoke about the advances in treatment with recombinant human leptin in infrequent lipodystrophies, a drug that is considered an indication for this type of rare diseases.
In addition, it has also offered a conference to alert the population about the frauds that occur in the field of medicine.
The Congress also counted with the participation of specialists in speech therapy, who have contributed a different vision to that of the doctors, focused on the intervention in Rett children.
"Rett syndrome is a mutation of the MECP2 chromosome, usually occurs in girls and what happens is that they begin to develop normally, but at 8 or 9 months they have a setback of all the things they have learned", has explained Alicia Gómez, expert in orofacial and myofunctional therapy and manager of the Multidisciplinary Center Logopédico LUNA.
This afternoon the congress will conclude with different practical workshops such as' Flamenco as therapy for Special Education ',' Food with taste: Example in patients with ALS ',' Medical ozone therapy: Interest in oxidative stress diseases' and 'Practical aspects of treatment of epilepsy ', as well as with the awarding of prizes and the reading of conclusions.
