The University of Murcia has inaugurated on Monday the exhibition of awarded and selected works of the XVIII Prize for Painting, sponsored by the City of Murcia, which can be visited until December 20 in the exhibition hall of the Palacio Almudí Art Center (2nd floor) ).

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, stressed that one of the fundamental missions of the University, apart from the creation and transmission of knowledge, is the "maintenance of the deep culture of the people", something to which this prize and This exhibition contributes actively.

For his part, José Luján, rector of the UMU, expressed his satisfaction because the painting prize "is coming of age this year" and explained that, over these 18 years, more than 1300 have been submitted to this call works and more than 500 have been exhibited.

During the ceremony, in addition, the award and diplomas to the winner and the second prizes took place.

Maestre Yago, who has won the first prize, commented that his work `Escritos desde el silencio' is a tribute to his father, recently deceased and also a painter.

The creative process developed by Maestre Yago in this work is related to the surrealist tradition that seeks inspiration in expressions from "non-art", such as the most primary and basic graffiti, the drawings of children, the graphic expressions of the sick mental, etc.
