In a first phase the web collects the detailed data of teaching and little by little will be incorporated infrastructure, personnel, research, etc.
The University of Murcia has presented this Friday the service 'UMU in figures', which provides statistical data on different aspects of its teaching, research and management activities through the website of the University of Murcia and is now accessible to all the society.
'UMU in figures' arrives to unify and order in the same space all the data that the University of Murcia already generated, with the aim of facilitating the task of dealing with, elaborating and analyzing the ample information available.
In this way the information is susceptible to be used by the managers in the decision making process.
The website with all the statistical information currently includes all the teaching data related to the degree studies.
Later, master's and doctorate data will also be incorporated.
In addition, it is planned to publish data on research, infrastructure, personnel, etc. in this same service.
The updates will be materialized over the coming months.
It is an exercise of what is called institutional intelligence, a condition to be able to make a quantum leap in terms of management and transparency, issues that are necessary to improve results.
This initiative is framed within a concept of governance in which transparency is essential through the publication of data on different aspects of public management.
The service has been developed jointly by the Single Data Office and the University Information Service with the support of the Area of Information Technology and Applied Communications (ATICA).
José Colino, director of the Single Data Office, has emphasized the idea that this service aims to organize "all data available in the bowels of the University of Murcia", and noted that all data relating to teaching are made with a gender perspective.
In this sense, he wanted to highlight examples of data that indicate that women are the majority within the student community.
As reflected on the web, 61.5% of those who study a degree at the University of Murcia are women;
a figure that exceeds 90% in some degrees.
Colino has also pointed out that the data on academic results indicate that "women are not only more, they are better".
Rector Luján has been very pleased with the implementation of this tool and wanted to highlight "that under the data is the effort of many people."
Make visible this reality of the University of Murcia that show the data "will help us to implement policies and make decisions", Luján explained.
The web, which has a very intuitive operation, is accessible from the 'University' menu at the UMU website header.
In addition, for a time, it will be available with a direct link from the front page of the website.
Juan Antonio Pastor, Coordinator of Information Systems, explained during the presentation the internal operation and access to the detailed data, as well as the method of downloading them.
