The Municipal Board of Carmen has presented today the participatory project "Take the Barracks", which will develop the University of Murcia (UMU), and whose goal is to give neighbors, neighbors, associations and other groups the opportunity to express their preferences on the uses of Pavilions 1 and 2 of the Artillery Barracks, currently in the rehabilitation phase.
According to the president of the Municipal Board, Ignacio García, and the members of Ahora Murcia and Cambiemos Murcia, Rafael Ródenas and Carlos Egio, one of the objectives of the initiative is to make a real diagnosis of the needs that exist in a neighborhood that it exceeds by far the twenty thousand inhabitants and in which there are many deficiencies of public infrastructures.
On the other hand Marta Latorre, technical coordinator of the Project and professor of Sociology of the University of Murcia, has explained that the process will be divided into two phases.
In the first, consultation, during the months of November and December, individual interviews and discussion groups will be held with the main social actors of the neighborhood (merchants, ampas, neighborhood associations, museums ...), neighbors and professionals. related to the cultural field to collect in-depth ideas related to the perception of this space.
In the second, meetings will be held in public squares, parks and spaces attended by citizens with assiduity as health centers so that any neighbor can make proposals.
Finally, in an open meeting the results will be presented and the uses will be sorted.
In accordance with the approval of the Municipal Board of Carmen and the Plenary Session of the City Council in June 2017, at the request of the opposition groups, the Consistory shall assume part of the results of this participatory project, maintaining in any case the use the pavilions have had until this moment and the agreements previously adopted, such as dedicating part of the space to the Railway Museum.
