THE SOCIAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL COMMITMENT OF EMMAUS DRAPERS
The principles of social and solidarity economy and environmental commitment are part of the very essence of the Trapero Association of Emmaus of the Region of Murcia since its birth in 1995, one of its main objectives being to promote responsible consumption based on reuse of the resources and products that our society discards.
Since its origins in France in the middle of the last century, the International Movement of Ragweed of Emmaus (more than 350 entities around the world) has always been linked to work, both as a driver of personal change and as a tool for empowerment and to generate its own resources. ensure the independence and sustainability of the entire project.
This orientation allows Traperos de Emaús Región de Murcia to maintain a relationship between its own resources and institutional subsidies of 80% / 20%, which gives an idea of the autonomy of the organization, making it possible to generate alternatives to social exclusion processes with comprehensive support, from the housing reception to the return to the working world, through therapeutic support, socio-health technical assistance and, most importantly, inclusion in a community of mutual care in which it is possible to recover social ties, habits healthy, empowerment and responsibility to people suffering situations of exclusion.
This work is only viable thanks to a broad network of solidarity, settled for more than two decades within the society of Murcia.
The friends and friends of Traperos who decide to donate to the organization the objects that they no longer need start a chain of generosity that goes through the volunteers who share the immense volume of work that Traperos de Emmaus develops.
Closing the circle are the people who choose a form of responsible consumption and acquire the recovered products, in our Rastro, our Traperías and, now, our online bookstore.
The work developed by Traperos de Emaús Región de Murcia during its more than 20 years has been recognized with the Sustainable Development Award 2015, Solidarity Award ONCE 2016 Region of Murcia, Murcia Business Award in Equality 2016, and Mentalized Company Award 2016 (for work in mental health with people at risk of social exclusion).
