The councilor Maite Espinosa, after visiting the street next to the also socialist mayor Enrique Ayuso, detects failures in a project that for now has cost 1.7 million euros and will ask that "be justified until the last cent," while claiming that space for the pedestrian is gained "not only in the center of the city"
"From the PSOE we consider that this project is good for Murcia because we are in favor of gaining space for the pedestrian at the expense of taking it away from motor vehicles and not only in the center but in the rest of the city, but from our humble opinion also we see that it is an improvable project in some aspects ".
This is how Maite Espinosa manifests herself when referring to the works that are carried out in the Paseo Alfonso X El Sabio, whose first phase has already been completed between Santo Domingo Square and Gutiérrez Mellado Avenue and the second one is still to be completed, which will arrive to the Circular Square.
The PSOE will ask to be justified to the last cent of the 1.7 million euros that have been invested in the remodeling of the walk, in which the City has placed up lights with music.
"We see well that investment in development and in fact we participate by contributing ideas to the realization of this action, but we must assess to what extent," says the socialist mayor, who warns of some issues that are "clearly improvable."
One of them has to do with the bike lane, which is barely distinguishable from the rest of the avenue surface, since the pavement used is the same color.
In fact, only some small plates with the bicycle symbol let us know that this space is reserved for the use of cyclists, who have already complained about this circumstance.
"We believe that it would not have been so difficult to find another color for the bike lane and that would have sufficed to do so, so that users of the bicycle can circulate in a space that is not invaded by pedestrians and thus avoid problems for some and others, "says Espinosa.
In addition, the fact that there are two schools on the promenade or its surroundings -Jesús María and Cierva Peñafiel- has generated a tremendous collapse of traffic once it has been pedestrianized.
From the PSOE it is understood that "it has not been known to give an adequate solution" to this question that aggravates the circulatory chaos at the time of entry and exit of schoolchildren to their schools.
"We have also received complaints from the hoteliers in the area who feel especially injured by not being able to operate their terraces and that prevents them from developing their activity 100% and suffer a significant loss of customers," he adds.
"These are aspects to which the PP and the mayor, José Ballesta, bent on getting breast with this project, do not give them visibility but they are there," says Maite Espinosa.
