The councilor of Cambiemos Murcia, Margarita Guerrero, has presented a motion to the Plenary next Thursday by requesting the creation of a working table with representation of the City Council's social services, political formations and entities of the third sector, which works in the elaboration of a municipal strategy to eradicate homelessness framed in the National Comprehensive Strategy for Homeless People.
The initiative also proposes the preparation, by the local government, of a diagnostic study with a gender perspective that helps to know the reality of homelessness in the municipality, where some 400 homeless people live and 575 are in a situation of residential exclusion. , according to the data that come from a report prepared by the RAIS Foundation with data from the INE corresponding to February of this year.
"These figures, as the Foundation has warned, could be higher, but the absence of diagnostic studies prevents knowing the reality in its measure," said Guerrero, who has insisted on the need to start up this type of studies in Murcia also incorporating the gender perspective, without which we can not know the reality of this phenomenon.
The mayor recalled that although the City Council provides attention to the group of homeless through the Mobile Emergency Service and Social Care (SEMAS) and entities of the third sector with which has agreements, there is no municipal strategy aimed at eradicating homelessness as it exists, for example, in Madrid.
In this regard, he explained that the National Comprehensive Strategy for Homeless People is inspired by the rights of individuals and the commitment of public authorities so that they can exercise them effectively, and is based, among others, on the prevention and early attention with a focus on housing, in addition to including measures to expand knowledge and information regarding this reality.
