The mayor Paqui Perez defends the need to promote alternative housing systems for the elderly, as well as the intergenerational association and volunteering, in addition to advancing in the project of adhesion to the Network of Friendly Cities
The mayor of Citizens Paqui Perez will defend in the Plenary next Thursday (October 25) an initiative calling for the implementation of a Municipal Plan to fight against the loneliness of the elderly in Murcia.
At present - Perez has emphasized - almost 700 million people in the world are over 60 years old and by 2050 this group is expected to reach 2,000 million, 20% of the world population.
On the other hand, in Spain there are more than 8,500,000 people over 65, 18.8 percent of the total population;
while in the municipality of Murcia, this index is around 15.3%.
"A general upward trend that, according to Pérez," we can not ignore, especially considering that loneliness is already becoming a major threat to our elders, even talking about it as the epidemic of the first world to associate with vascular diseases, depression and anxiety. "
For the councilor of the orange training, "it is essential that administrations assume this problem to combat it and find solutions, for example, through coexistence formulas that adapt to new times such as senior cohousing or intergenerational housing, where older and young people live together. "
Another issue that has influenced the mayor of Citizens is awareness.
To do this, it will ask for progress to be made in the phases of the project of adhesion to the Network of Friendly Cities with the Elderly "to carry out an initial diagnosis of the 'friendliness' of the municipality and to elaborate afterwards a plan of action starting from said report".
In addition, Paqui Perez has also referred to the importance of promoting policies that promote the association between the elderly and intergenerational volunteering and promote relationships between people inside and outside the family, "to try to avoid or alleviate this unwanted loneliness that anyone of us can feel in this moment of life. "
Finally, he recalled that the City of Murcia has launched the Mesa del Mayor, an organ whose first action has been to provide the 76 social centers for the entire municipality of the same resources, ending years of differences between the elderly of the center of Murcia and those who live in the districts.
"Once it is underway, this Mesa could also channel and respond to other issues related to the group of older people, such as the problem of loneliness."
