The Ministry of Tourism and Culture of the Autonomous Community requires the Ministry of Culture and Sports to comply with the announced and carry out the work urgently to ensure the structural stability of the Castle of Monteagudo.
This is what Counselor Miriam Guardiola told the Minister, JoséGuirao, during their meeting in Madrid.
The works, as Guardiola recalled, "are included in the general budgets of the State for this 2018 and were announced last March in an act in which representatives of the three administrations show our commitment to act jointly and immediately in the recovery of the Castle of Monteagudo and its surroundings, including the castles of Larache and El Castillejo, a commitment that we hope that now, after the change in the central Government, continues to be maintained and that it will be met quickly. "
The Ministry, through the Institute of Cultural Heritage of Spain (IPCE), leads the Master Plan for the conservation of the monument and its surroundings, a document that becomes the essential tool to carry out the recovery of the fortress of Islamic origin It was declared a Site of Cultural Interest in 2004, since it contains all the information of a historical, legal or conservation nature, among other aspects, and includes the actions that must be undertaken to guarantee its preservation and enjoyment by the public.
The interventions, whose estimated cost is 1.18 million euros, will focus on adapting the accesses and consolidating and restoring the mud and stone factories in the area of greatest risk, the south front of the castle.
The Castle of Monteagudo "is an emblematic monument of our Region, a sample of the richness and grandiosity of our cultural, historical and landscape heritage, and from the central Government can not be delayed any longer the start of the emergency works that were already planned and that were announced to all citizens of the Region, "said Guardiola, who also recalled that" the joint work between administrations, when they are really committed to the recovery and enhancement of heritage, has given magnificent examples in other cases like the recovery of Lorca after the earthquakes of 2011 ".
Performances in museums
During the working meeting held with Guirao, Guardiola has also asked the Ministry to carry out performances in state owned museums whose management is transferred to the Region such as the Museum of Fine Arts of Murcia, the Archaeological Museum of Murcia and the Museum of Iberian Art El Cigarralejo de Mula.
The head of Culture explained that "the three state-owned museums are being managed in the best way and with great results by the technicians of the Ministry, but unfortunately suffer at this time of a lack of renewal and adaptation of some of the basic equipment in the field of conservation and presentation of collections (conditioning and lighting systems), which makes it difficult to combine the necessary preservation work with the optimization of resources in terms of energy savings and environmental values ".
Also, Guardiola added, "we requested the inclusion of our spaces in the circuits of the traveling exhibitions prepared by the major state museums, which would contribute to further enrich our cultural programming, as well as the temporary loan of significant archaeological pieces related to the Region. "
The need to continue performing at the Roman Theater in Cartagena was also addressed.
