The help of the Murcians to those affected by the eruption of the Fuego volcano, in Guatemala, will come through three cooperation projects that Covide, Unicef ​​and Cruz Roja will carry out.
For this, the Councilor for Social Rights and Development Cooperation, Conchita Ruiz, has signed the corresponding agreements with these entities, which will channel the assistance of the City of Murcia, which amounts to 7,000 euros in each case.
The eruption of the Fuego volcano (Guatemala), which took place on June 3, caused considerable damage to the native population.
According to data provided by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), the catastrophe affected more than one and a half million people, with 12,277 evacuated, almost two hundred missing and a hundred people dead.
As a result, the Council for Cooperation and Solidarity approved the sending of humanitarian aid by the City of Murcia and, once consulted with the organizations that usually work on projects of this nature, Covide, Unicef ​​and Red Cross will be the ones They are responsible for promoting three projects:
COVIDE (Vincentian Cooperation for Development), will act with an intervention aimed at guaranteeing access to drinking water and food security and giving access to health care.
For its part, Unicef ​​will provide humanitarian assistance through a project for the supply of drinking water, sanitation and hygiene to affected people, while the Red Cross, for its part, will focus its action on facilitating access to basic needs services. the most vulnerable people (water supply and hygiene, psychosocial care, etc.).
Each of these projects will have a grant of 7,000 euros from the Department of Social Rights and Development Cooperation.
