José Ballesta presents the Health Guide, which includes 27 workshops aimed primarily at children and adolescents, to promote a healthy lifestyle and combat drug use.
This year a workshop is offered for the responsible and safe use of the Internet, mobile phones and social networks among students in 2nd cycle of Primary, Secondary and High School.
The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, along with the Councilor for Sports and Health, Felipe Coello, presented this morning the Health Guide with healthy life workshops of the City of Murcia, a total of 27 programs aimed at promoting the quality of life and reduce the risk factors associated with addictions, aimed primarily at children and adolescents Murcia.
"Last year, 120 schools, 20 health centers and 21 municipal community centers participated in these workshops and activities, reaching more than 39,000 students and their families, as well as 950 teachers, health and social professionals," the mayor said. who added that "this course we hope to surpass these figures, since the participation in programs like the 'Classroom of the Health and the Senses', has increased 75% in the last three years".
The Health Guide, which is distributed in schools, social and health centers of the municipality, is aimed at educational centers and social collectives to spread the benefits of a balanced diet, the practice of exercise, emotional well-being and reducing the factors of risk associated with the abuse and consumption of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs.
Among the workshops with greater participation highlights the 'Classroom of Health and Senses', which takes place in the square Veronicas supplies, and in which schoolchildren approach the Mediterranean diet, learn to make a sustainable purchase and they practice cooking with fresh foods and sensory development.
On the other hand, the participation of youth and adolescents in workshops related to addiction prevention and social competence has tripled in the last year.
The increase of the program 'Argos alcohol: conscience with science', which coordinates the interventions with Primary Health Care Centers and informs adolescents about the physical, psychological and social health risks that derive from the consumption of alcoholic beverages, stands out .
Responsible use of mobile phones and the Internet in children and adolescents
In this new course it has been wanted to give relevance to the prevention of the use of Information and Communication Technologies in childhood and adolescence, with the purpose of equipping them with skills for the safe use of the Internet, videogames, telephones, WhatsApp, Instagram , etc., as well as emotional intelligence workshops as a protective and preventive factor in health.
The prevention workshop on the use of ICT is aimed at students in the 2nd cycle of Primary, Secondary and Baccalaureate.
"They are the first generation of digital natives," said José Ballesta, "so awareness of the safe use of these devices and digital applications is essential for their proper development as free and autonomous people."
Maternal health and drug prevention
Each school year, the educational, social and health centers have at their disposal an updated edition of the Guide to Health Promotion Programs that annually draws up the Health Service of the City of Murcia, in which all the actions and plans aimed at promoting healthy lifestyles and preventing addictions.
The objective of this new guide is to facilitate both information and access to programs.
We also offer workshops that are developed in the community, in the city, such as the program of Promotion of physical activity in healthy environments 4/40, municipal health schools, the maternal health program and the first 1,000 days of children's life 'Together: healthy for you, healthy for both'.
In the past year, around 7,000 people participated, including minors, youth, adults and the elderly.
Among the programs to prevent the consumption and abuse of drugs also highlight 'In the garden with my friends', 'The adventure of life' 'Órdago', 'Let's go back to alcohol', 'Drugs through an objective';

Participation in any of these programs is open to the whole society.
