"It is absolutely necessary to address the tragedy of trafficking in an integral manner and not only from a criminal or criminal point of view," explained the Councilor for Social Rights and Development Cooperation at the close of the III Conference on Trafficking for the Purpose of Sexual Exploitation , organized to celebrate the "International Day Against the Exploitation and Trafficking of Women, Children and Girls" by the Oblate Murcia Program.
In this regard, he claimed the 'social, health, physical and psychological care, as absolutely necessary actions to restore the person's status as a subject of rights and empowerment to resume a life that was biased at some point, with confidence and confidence in institutions and administrations to denounce and restart a personal life project '.
Conchita Ruiz appealed to the effort that public administrations must make by coordinating and appointing the necessary economic resources to address the treatment and reintegration of people who are victims of trafficking, most of them women and girls.
The City of Murcia, through the Department of Social Rights and Development Cooperation and within the framework of the Plan for Equal Opportunities between Women and Men, collaborates with social entities in the implementation of awareness and care activities and reintegration of women who have been trafficked for the purpose of sexual exploitation.
Likewise, the City Council subsidizes development cooperation projects that, by including the gender perspective transversally, have a positive impact on equality, the empowerment of women and the prevention of trafficking and trafficking in women, girls and boys for the purpose of sexual exploitation.
Conchita Ruiz denounced in her speech that 'trafficking treats people, strips them of their dignity, positions them as merchandise and places them at the center of criminal spaces and witnesses the enrichment of a few people to the suffering and treatment humiliating that they live. '
On the other hand, in the specific case of women, girls and boys, they are mostly victims of trafficking for the purpose of sexual exploitation, which produce, in addition to damage and emotional and psychological consequences, serious mental and physical health problems.
It is estimated that around 98% of the victims of trafficking for the purpose of sexual exploitation are women and half of these are under the age of 18, with 20% of the victims being children.
