The Association of Neighbors of Zeneta, together with Ecologists in Action, have denounced the clearings that are being carried out for more than a year in the hamlet of Murcia Zeneta.
According to the organizations, the works lack the necessary licenses from the competent bodies, that is, the Environment, Mines, Segura Hydrographic Confederation and Murcia City Council, which protect the real activity that is being carried out.
On the one hand, there is no rigorous study of the environmental impact, nor a Plan of Work, nor a complete Reforestation Plan, nor a Study of Emissions to the Atmosphere.
In addition, the clearings, which have already extracted more than 1,700,000 m3 of material to be used in the construction of the Reguerón highway, producing a serious environmental and landscape impact, are developed on land classified by the General Plan for Urban Development of Murcia SOIL NF "Protection of Nature and Forest Uses".
In fact, species of flora of different cataloging have been eliminated in the Regional Catalog of Protected Wild Flora, which in any case require authorization for their management.
As if this were not enough, the organizations warn that they have eliminated and transformed natural channels of ravines and small ravines, without any consent of the CHS, and very close to areas of risk for floods collected in the Cartography of Floodplains of the Hydrographic Demarcation del Segura [1], so that in case of torrential rains the variation of said channels could aggravate the flooding processes and affect nearby populations.
To which it is added that the organizations fear that after the clearings, the adjacent agricultural exploitations take advantage of the resulting paving to expand or create new irrigation irregularly.
As for families that live less than 100 meters away, they have been forced to report that this activity is causing them damage due to the concentration of dust in the environment, the constant accumulation of sand in homes, the noise and traffic generated the passage of 200 trucks of large tonnage a day, damaging the health of several people afflicted with respiratory and ocular complaints.
This is the consequence of the lack of licenses and permits that condition the extraction to the fulfillment of certain corrective measures, which are usually required for this type of activities, such as the irrigation of the surfaces, the limitation of speed of the vehicles, which the trucks travel with the cargo covered, the restriction of schedules and magnitude of noise, respect a distance to homes, etc.
For all these reasons, both groups consider that a serious environmental crime has been committed, including the failure to comply with numerous legislation, so they ask the competent administrations to stop the extraction, impose the corresponding sanctions and penalties, and if they constitute a crime that they are sent to the appropriate judicial dependencies, as well as that the environmental restoration of the area be forced.
