José Luis Mendoza, president of the Catholic University of Murcia, and Hector Calvo, general director of ESL for Latin America, Spain and Portugal signed the collaboration agreement between both institutions to work in three ways: student internship UCAM in ESL, training offer in electronic sports and research projects.
With this agreement, the UCAM seals a new alliance in the world of electronic sports, consolidating itself as the Spanish university pioneer in this sector.
Héctor Calvo believes that this step taken by the Catholic University will be very positive for both parties but especially for students who do internships with them: "For us it is a great responsibility that students of the UCAM can come to work or know our world in its more entrepreneurial facet and that can advance in its formation, at the same time it allows us to open a wide range of study possibilities between the company and the university advancing the two in that way ".
In addition, he considers that it is a great success for the UCAM to enter a sector in which the strongest companies in the world are already positioning themselves: "The big telecommunications companies are entering the world of eSports because they have realized that this is not child's play, there are already broadcasting rights like in football or basketball, the growth of this sector is very high and that is demonstrated by the jump to television platforms beyond Twitch. "
Tao Martínez, director of strategy of UCAM eSports, highlights the agreement because it opens very interesting collaboration paths: "This type of agreement is good for our students to do internships in companies in this world and have a real training in eSports It also encourages us to investigate together and offer scholarships to players so that they can combine their competitions with higher education. "
The section on teaching is also crucial since the UCAM, through the eSports Chair, is already teaching specific courses on the world of electronic sports: "We want them to rely on us to provide internal training in their own organization and that they exercise as teachers in our courses since they are the ones who have the experience in this sector at international level ".
