The left bank of the river will have vegetation and special pavement to adapt the new recreational path
This is already the sixth project that the Department of Modernization of the Administration and Urban Development, through Parks and Gardens, launches within Murcia River
The Governing Board has approved this morning the adequacy project of the Segura river, specifically the left bank, for recreational use.
A new project of Murcia River, which adds to five more that are already underway.
The project, carried out by the Department of Modernization of the Administration and Urban Development directed by José Guillén, provides for the rehabilitation of the left bank of the Segura River as it passes through the city, from Los Molinos del Río to La Fica, with a Approximate length of 1,550 meters.
The actions to be developed are, on the one hand, the planting of a great variety of plant species of different size.
The planting of trees on the side adjacent to the channeling wall is planned, as well as the planting of vegetation along the entire length.
In addition, irrigation will be provided for its proper development and action is expected on the slope of the mote to try to weaken the growth of invasive species and thus eliminate them completely.
It will also be paved in a suitable color for its integration into the natural environment the entire surface on a regular basis to allow the ride.
A special concrete paving is also planned for the descent of each staircase so that pedestrians crossing the bike lane to access the pedestrian promenade can do so more safely.
The project has a contract execution budget of 797,433.34 euros, 80% of which is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) of the European Union, within the framework of the Operational Program for sustainable growth 2014-2020 , with the DUSI Murcia IT Strategy: Innovation + Tradition.
The expected execution period is four months for the execution of the work, although the actions on the slope of the mote for the elimination of cane and invasive species are expected to develop up to twelve months.
On-going works of 'Murcia Río'
- Alameda de las Cuatro Piedras - Completed
- Alameda del Malecón - Under construction
- Fluvial Walk - In works
- Adjustment of the right bank - In the award phase for the start of works
- Terrazas del Río - In public tender
- Adjustment of the left margin - In public tender
This project of improvement and adaptation of the left bank of the river joins the new pedestrian and cyclist itinerary between the Manterola footbridge and the Alameda del Malecón that will have areas of stay and walk, as well as a segregated bike lane.
The project, which has a budget of close to 3 million euros, includes the creation of a new pedestrian promenade that will project slightly above the river and allow the Segura to be seen.
The green itinerary, which affects an area of 19,825 m2, will be used entirely for pedestrian and cyclist use, with family areas of stay and walk and segregated and bi-directional bike path, which will be established along the left bank of the river.
The three ideas that guide this transformative project are to establish a new connection between the city and the Huerta, to open new connections between the Malecón and the river, and to strengthen human and social cohesion.
The connection between these two pedestrian circuits will be articulated through a greenway that will border the current deterrent parking, establishing a circular circuit that will allow to cross the entire mota and return, and which will also integrate the gardens of the Four Stones, which is already open to all Murcia, and the Alameda, whose works are advancing at a good pace.
With a deadline of nine months, the riverwalk project is one of the most ambitious projects committed to the transformative process of the city in which the City Council works, through the Murcia River project.
This action is added to the one that is going to be carried out on the right bank of the river, with similar characteristics and to the 'Terrazas del Río' project, which will be the most ambitious urban action that Murcia Río has yet tackled, and which includes the creation of a wooded park of 4,200 m2 and a leisure area with pedestrian access to the mota next to the Puente de Hierro.
In which a slope is projected with a gentle slope that will allow maximum accessibility, the descent of boats, bicycles or simply for the ride next to the canal.
This project of the Terrazas del Río has a maximum budget of 3,752,091 euros and a term of one year.
