The three institutions have today signed an agreement for the creation of the Chair `Mobility and Sustainable Transport', which aims to reduce the number of vehicles and promote a more sustainable and safe transport in the metropolitan area of ​​Murcia.
After the agreement signed at the Catholic University by its president, José Luis Mendoza;
the general director of the Tram Society of Murcia, Severiano Arias;
and the Director of Transportation of Murcia, José Enrique Pérez, the three entities will begin to work together to optimize the transport network with new patterns designed from the research of the GTM of the UCAM and the data of the concessionaires on the habits of the Murcians.
Roberto Liñán, director of the Chair has announced that the works of the first two years of life of this new project are already planned and that: "we will use the Big Data obtained from areas such as the center of Murcia, and nearby towns such as Molina, Lorquí o Las Torres de Cotillas, among others, to improve the infrastructure of transport networks and thus avoid using the car in the metropolitan area of ​​Murcia ".
Also, the director has made reference, during the signing, to the educational and professional level that will allow developing new technological and conceptual tools, designing innovative systems, meetings with experts, as well as granting grants and scholarships for students and researchers who want to work in this area.
The representatives of the concessionaires, Severiano Arias and José Enrique Pérez, have highlighted the importance of collaboration between private companies and universities to obtain quality research that allows the knowledge generated to be transferred to the market.
In addition, both institutions have indicated that with the creation of the Chair it will be possible to continue improving the public transport service to provide a quality service to the citizen.
