The University of Murcia will celebrate this Thursday, October 4, the Day of Healthy Universities, a day in which more than fifty academic and health institutions from across the country participate, and whose main objective is to spread healthy lifestyle habits among Spanish university students.
The day of this year, presented on Tuesday at a press conference, revolves around two challenges: get 5,000 blood donations across the country and promote the consumption of fruit among the youngest.
The University Social Center Campus Espinardo will be the nerve center of the celebrations of this day from 9.30 am and there will be installed the Regional Blood Donation Center until 3:00 pm.
All those who come to donate blood will be given fruits and vegetables to regain strength.
The universities that get more donations will have a recognition of the Spanish Network of Healthy Universities (Reus).
On the other hand, and as part of the objective of the promotion of fruit consumption, Reus has organized a photo competition through the social network Twitter.
To participate, the university students will have to publish their photos eating fruit with the label #RetoFrutaREUS and #DiaUniSaludables, mentioning the account of @ReusUMUoficial.
The universities that get more photographs of their students will receive recognition and the best images will be awarded.
Throughout the day, those who pass through the University Social Center can take pots and flowers as a gift, fruit, natural juices, tomatoes and other products donated by companies and collaborating organizations.
In addition, there will be an information tent of the Regional Ministry of Health of the Autonomous Community.
At the press conference Eva Herrera, director of the Healthy University Office REUS-University of Murcia and Student Health Coordinator, explained in detail what the development of the day will be and thanked the effort of all the people who have worked in the last ten years in the promotion of healthy living habits through the Reus.
For his part, Dr. Vicente Vicente, director of the Regional Blood Donation Center, explained the importance of holding these events at the University to achieve a priority goal: to ensure that young people, healthy and with altruistic values, become donors of usual blood.
Vicente Vicente has encouraged the most students to participate in these challenges and has advanced that this donation of the next October 4 will not replace the one traditionally done in the month of November in the universities of the Region.
The professor of the UMU has noted that "every year you get about three thousand donations of university students and hopefully five thousand or more in the coming years."
Paloma Sobrado, vice chancellor of the Vice-Rector for Coordination and Assistance Services, has encouraged the entire university community to participate in this day of Healthy Universities.
