The Ministry of Family and Equal Opportunities has increased the residential care for elderly people in the Betania Home in Murcia by 15 places.
Through the Murciano Institute of Social Action (IMAS), 49 places are financed in this center.
The extension of the contract until July 2020 has a cost of 847,000 euros.
The Minister of Family and Equal Opportunities, Violante Tomás, visited the residence today and explained that "with the recent expansion of places in this center we respond to the demand, since there are many people who have applied for admission to this residence.
The largest population of the Region grows exponentially and from the regional government we try to meet their needs ".
According to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE), people over 65 represent 18 percent of the population.
Forecasts indicate that by 2050 this percentage will be above 30 percent.
"In line with this demographic trend, the Family Ministry takes a step forward in responding to the demands of a society that demands more personalized attention," affirmed Violante Tomás.
