The Mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, today held a working meeting in Madrid with the Director General of Fine Arts of the Government of Spain, Román Fernández-Baca, in which he insisted on the need to "undertake an emergency intervention in the castle de Monteagudo "and the" implementation of the Master Plan ".
"We have conveyed the need for the urgent consolidation of certain architectural elements of the Castle that are in danger of collapse, especially the area of ​​greatest risk, the southern front of the fortification, as well as the adequacy of the accesses of this BIC, which is owned by of the State ", explained José Ballesta after the meeting.
In this regard, the mayor reported that the general director of Fine Arts "will soon visit this environment and other spaces of high heritage value" in the municipality of Murcia and has promised that "in a short time he will study with the technicians the way to undertake those urgent actions ".
Also, the mayor urged the implementation of the medium and long-term actions included in the Monteagudo Master Plan, which was presented last May and which marks the roadmap, with deadlines and budgets, for the recovery and putting in value of this castle erected by the King Wolf in the eleventh century.
"In our collective city project, the recovery of public spaces is one of the main strategic lines of transformation of the municipality.
We are recovering key areas of the municipality to return them to Murcia, such as the Old Prison, San Esteban and, of course, Monteagudo, one of those places to understand how we Murcia Murcia Medieval and who we are today, "said the mayor.
Protocol to three

Declared an Asset of Cultural Interest with a Historic Site category, the environment of Monteagudo consists of three powerful buildings that defended the Segura region: the Castle, which is state owned and belongs to the State, the Larache fortress, owned by the Community Autónoma, and the residential palace of Castillejo, which belongs to a private individual and which is currently being expropriated by the City Council.
Extension of the excavations in the almunia del Rey Lobo
