A total of 5,145 meters and more than a million euros will make it possible for Murcians to use the bicycle in the center of the city, thus promoting sustainable mobility in Murcia.
The execution of the two bicycle lanes that are currently under construction by the urban center will end at the end of the year
The Board of Government has approved this morning the tender of three new bike lanes in the city of Murcia.
To the two bike lanes that are already in execution, and that are estimated to be completed by the end of 2018, add these three new ones whose objective is to unite the rest of the cycle lanes that are organized in the center of the city, with In order to promote sustainable mobility.
The projects to build three new bike lanes in the city are: Avenida Rector Loustau, Obispo Frutos and Ronda Garay;
the one of the surroundings of the historical helmet of Murcia;
and that of Ronda Sur and its connection with Pío Baroja Avenue.
The total investment planned amounts to 1,015,893 euros, for a total route of 5,145 meters and a deadline of five months.
The first one runs through the Avenida Rector Loustau, Bishop Frutos and Ronda Garay, connecting in Juan XXIII with the bike lane already bidding that runs from the Regional Auditorium to the Plaza Circular, while the south links with the one that will run through the avenue Intendente Jorge Palacios, whose project is in writing.
It will reach a total length of 1,280 meters, the execution time is estimated at 4 months and the budget amounts to 398,182.25 euros.
Regarding the bike path in the vicinity of the historic center of Murcia, it has been divided into two axes, each one of them in one direction.
Thus, the South Axis runs from the intersection of Baritono Marcos Redondo street with Gran Vía Escultor Salzillo, Maestro Alonso, Santa Clara, Enrique Villar and University Square, until finishing at Rector Loustau avenue.
For its part, the North Axis begins at the intersection of Avenida Rector Loustau with Dr. Tapia Sanz Street and continues through Gutiérrez Mellado, Jaime I and Jerónimo de Roda.
The length of this route is 1,605 meters and the execution time is 3 months.
The budget amounts to 109,633.36 euros.
Finally, the third project will expand the network of cyclable roads to the south of the city.
Its route begins in Ronda Sur, on the bridge of the FICA, where it joins the bike path Plaza Circular - FICA and arrives at the intersection with Avenida Los Dolores.
There are two more axes that run along San Juan de la Cruz avenue and Vicente Aleixandre street and connect with the bike path Rector Loustau, Obispo Frutos and Ronda Garay, through the Pío Baroja avenue.
The layout will have a length of 2,260 meters, the execution period of 5 months and the budget amounts to 508,077.75 euros.
The three are co-financed by 80% by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) within the framework of the Operational Program for Sustainable Growth.

The Murcia Strategy is a beneficiary of the support for Strategies for Sustainable and Integrated Urban Development, in this case, encompassed in the "Line of action 2: sustainable mobility".
In addition, the supply and installation of 406 bicycle parking facilities with Equidesa Group was also contracted last July.
