The commissioning of the new section of the collector, which will take place this October, will capture water from the ravine of the Espinardo cemetery, and will improve drainage and alleviate floods. "Since the City Council, we have prioritized investments in hydraulic infrastructures in districts with an investment of 1.4 million euros, but we urgently need the Ministry to execute the large collector in the North zone, "said José Ballesta.
The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, along with the councilors of Urbanism, Environment and Huerta, Antonio Navarro, and of Pedanías, Participation and Decentralization, Marco Antonio Fernández, visited the rain collector of the ravine of the Espinardo cemetery (located in the hamlet of El Puntal), a strategic action to alleviate the floods that occur in the northern area of the municipality.
The commissioning of the new section, which will take place this October, will improve the drainage and mitigate the floods that occur when it rains in the surroundings of the districts of Espinardo, El Puntal and the neighborhoods of the North of Murcia, through a new tank with capacity for about 20,000 m3 that will collect the water generated in the ravine of the Espinardo cemetery.
"From the City we have prioritized investments in hydraulic infrastructure in districts to streamline the improvement of the network and optimize maintenance in periods of rain, with an investment of 1.4 million euros," said the mayor, who added that "this work has meant an investment of more than 126,000 euros ".
The action that is being carried out is the work of capture from the ravine to the collector (which was left installed about ten years ago, coinciding with the construction of the Costera Norte).
The action is scheduled to end this October, in view of the rains of the month of autumn.
Aguas de Murcia has already executed the emptying pipes of said collector in the nearest sanitation, where it will be evacuated when it is full.
However, José Ballesta said that "this work and those included in the Murcia Water Investment Plan are palliative works that do not replace the need to execute the great collector of the North zone, a work of state competence that Murcia urgently needs. and that will solve this problem in a definitive way ".
Last week the mayor held a meeting with the Secretary of State for the Environment, Hugo Moran, who undertook to create a mixed technical commission between the two institutions to go out to contest the work of the collector of the North Zone, that the project has already been completed and delivered to the Ministry.
