"From the moment we are born we begin to die."
This overwhelming truth is the one that presides over the installation that Jose Antonio Torregar exposes in the hall the Chapel of the Rector of the University of Murcia with its title in Latin: "Nascentes morimur".
The passage of time, the transience of life, vanity before worldly riches, is a constant in the work of this artist in recent years.
Torregar has tried to take advantage of the intrinsic characteristics of a room as special as the Convalescence Chapel, in the Rectorate of the University of Murcia, to explore other territories other than painting and make an exhibition as particular as the room in which it is exposed .
The central space is a huge nest that the artist has made with the patience and enthusiasm of a swallow.
The nest as a place of protection, of shelter, of life, to whose meaning are opposed some certainly different eggs: a series of human skulls made of polyester resin and covered with gold leaf another allusion to the uselessness of clinging to earthly goods .
"I wanted to play with the idea of ​​the vanitas, of how little the riches of this world serve us," says the artist while showing us in his hands a gleaming golden skull.
Life and death concentrated in the same place, whose image will return, in an unsettling image, a mirror hung on high.
"My intention was to combine life and death in one place, a very baroque image that attracted me a lot."
All underlined by an environmental music specially selected by the artist.
Undoubtedly a different experience, to which are invited as many spectators are attracted to her.
The inauguration will take place next Thursday, March 13 at 8:30 pm, at which time it will be inaugurated by the artist himself in the convalescence building.
