The Platform raised in its day the protection of the old property as part of a proposal to extend the Special Plan of the Artistic Historical Center of Murcia (PECHAM), an initiative that has not been taken care of by the municipality to date.
The collective claims in turn the constitution of the Sectoral Council of Heritage that was approved more than a year ago.
The Platform for the Defense of the Cultural Heritage of Murcia has shown its sorrow at the demolition of a traditional home in the vicinity of the Plaza de las Flores, on Jiménez Baeza Street in the capital.
Building that had balconies with rejería and slab base and in whose low was the old Rubio bookstore, forming a set of interest with other buildings of the environment.
The building in question was not protected by the PECHAM, so the Platform included it in its proposal to expand the catalog of the historic center of Murcia, along with another hundred candidates, to avoid the disappearance of the facade.
Initiative that was presented to the municipal government team at the end of 2016 without obtaining a tacit commitment from the authorities.
Although the company promoting the work has announced that in the new building it is planning to recreate the image of the demolished property, the Platform believes that the ideal, "in an old town as battered as Murcia", would have been the maintenance of the original facade "in the same way that has been done in other cases of similar type that were collected in the PECHAM".
And is that for this group, pose imitations is still a "false history."
In his opinion, excellence in the preservation of any old town requires prioritizing rehabilitation versus imitation, "as in many cities."
In turn, the Platform notes that this event highlights the need for an organization in the municipality to deal specifically with these problems through expert advice on the subject.
In fact, in May 2017, the creation of a Sectoral Heritage Council was unanimously approved at the proposal of the Platform, but its constitution is still pending more than a year later.
The fact that most of the historic center of Murcia was destroyed during the decades of 60 and 70 of the twentieth century before urban planning very little respectful of the heritage, implies for the Platform that the authorities should seek the conservation of the little that he managed to save himself, "especially those traditional homes that are the ones that manage to generate a sense of a whole today almost non-existent";
as was the case with the Jiménez Baeza building.
