The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, together with the councilors of Modernization of the Administration and Urban Development, José Guillén, and of Commerce, Organization and Institutional Relations, Maruja Pelegrín, and members of the Municipal Corporation, received this morning the official delegation led by the mayor of the Indian city of Solapur, Shobha Banshetti, who participates in the Murcia-Solapur International Working Group.
The mayor reported that "they are mainly interested in two aspects in which the city of Murcia has a long experience, such as the treatment of water and the 'smart city' or smart city, that is, the application of new technologies to the city management.
They start from an initial base and come to learn from our management model to move it to their city. "
The Indian delegation will remain in Murcia until Saturday and will hold various meetings on strategic projects such as 'Murcia Smart City', or ADN Urbano, and will visit the facilities of Aguas de Murcia, the waste treatment center of Cañada Hermosa or the University of Murcia, among other places.
The European Commission, through the General Directorate of Regional and Urban Policy, chose Murcia as the representative city of Europe in Asia to export its City Model to India, specifically, to Solapur, belonging to the state of Maharastra (center- west of the country), which has a population close to one million inhabitants.
Murcia thus leads the European program of International Urban Cooperation (IUC) in Asia, since the candidacy of the capital of the Region obtained the highest score of this call, which has ERDF funding, and which is allowing the transfer of good practices and the elaboration of a joint Local Action Plan focused on three aspects: Urban Governance & Regeneration, Public Spaces & Services and Water Management.
