Secrets of silk and animals of the Huerta, uncovered in the gardens of Lieutenant Flomesta (31/08/2018)

José Ballesta inaugurates the 'Sample of local pets and animals and workshops of the garden', with more than a hundred native and adopted animals, and traditional activities such as esparto, silk, honey or pottery.

The City Council encourages the adoption of pets with a sample of pets looking for a family that will provide them with a new home.

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, together with the Councilor for Employment, Tourism and Culture, Jesús Pacheco, and Health and Sports, Felipe Coello, inaugurated today in the gardens of Teniente Flomesta Avenue the 'Sample of indigenous animals and animals and 'huerta' workshops, with more than a hundred native and adopted animals, and traditional activities such as esparto, silk, iron, honey or pottery.

In total there are eleven participatory workshops that include exhibitions of esparto, cane, honey, iron, cheese, bread, cultivation, pottery, silk, craft cages and carrier pigeons.

As for the native animals, distributed in different tents and identified with informative posters, include murcians chickens, Bankiva, Sonnerati and Guinea hens, pigeons, Lorca cuckoo, broken Murcian, laying hens, Spanish rabbit, turkeys, pheasants, geese, partridges, Murcian canary, snail hatchery, Murcian goat, Murcian flat, oxen, horses and donkeys.

"This exhibition of animals, which finds its roots in the old cattle fair of the September festivities, includes educational talks on the type of care required by each of the species and animal welfare," said the mayor.

The exhibition can be visited throughout this weekend: from today Friday to Sunday, from 11.00 to 22.00 hours.

Cats, dogs and ponies for adoption

In this same environment of Teniente Flomesta Avenue, the City of Murcia, through the Department of Sports and Health, has organized for today and tomorrow a sample of pets made up of cats, dogs and ponies for adoption, in order to Promote the reception of pets and provide them with a new home.

"Two years ago we launched this initiative with great success on the part of Murcia families, who adopted hundreds of pets," explained José Ballesta, who added that "the Municipal Zoonoses Center has a magnificent adoption program."

In fact, so far this year have been adopted 359 dogs, 59 cats, 6 ponies, 5 horses and 3 donkeys.

Since this program began in 1997, more than 10,000 dogs have been adopted.

The adoptive family receives the dog or the cat with its vaccination card, its microchip and a hairdressing voucher;

all for free.
