The bidding of the North collector by the Ministry has been the central theme of the bilateral meeting held this morning by the Mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, and the new president of the Segura Hydrographic Confederation, Mario Urrea.

"The rainwater interceptor of the North zone is an infrastructure that the city of Murcia has been claiming for a long time.

Yesterday we had an episode of rain with only 7 liters / m2 and, again, there were some problems in the ravine Cabezo de Torres and Churra, with streets and roads cut in the municipality.

This situation must be resolved immediately, "said José Ballesta in statements prior to the meeting.

"At the time, with the previous management of the Confederation and the Ministry, the adjudication of the interceptor project was finally achieved.

In the general budgets of the State there are funds to do it and what is needed at the moment is the management to get it out to tender and that these works begin as soon as possible, "explained the mayor.

"This work will solve once and for all the worries and that kind of restlessness that many Murcia feel whenever they see a cloud approaching the conflictive zones, such as the promenades of Espinardo, Churra and Cabezo de Torres, which collect all the waters of the northern zone, "said José Ballesta, who added that" in the 21st century, a city like Murcia, the seventh capital of Spain, can not live in these situations of risk ".

Nine priority issues for Murcia

Today's meeting, which has addressed nine items on the agenda, has been the first between the mayor and the new head of the basin organization, and preparatory for the next meeting that the municipality will maintain with the secretary of state of Environment.

In addition to the pending investments by the Ministry, necessary to minimize damage in case of heavy rains in the municipality of Murcia, the following issues have been addressed: preventive works, expansion of the Murcia-East treatment plant, Community of Irrigators of Valdelentisco , environmental regeneration of the Segura river bed, abandoned meanders in the river, recreational and sports use of the Segura, recovery of the hydraulic system of La Contraparada and adaptation of the channel and cutting of reeds in the Segura river.
