Huermur has requested by registration to the Directorate General of Cultural Assets of the Autonomous Community an immediate inspection of all the facades and exterior elements of the Cathedral of Murcia, before the latest events of falling debris and poor condition of the facades.
The conservationist organization will demand that the reports of the last interventions and restorations that have been made in the Cathedral monument be made public, as well as information to the City Council about the lack of repair of the anti-pigeon nets of the imafronte.
Huermur has demanded the answer to the various complaints that were presented to the Ministry of Culture in reference to the facades of the Cathedral, since they are on the table of counseling without today have been solutions.
The Association for the Conservation of the Garden and the Heritage of Murcia (Huermur) has requested the Ministry of Culture of the Autonomous Community an urgent inspection of each and every one of the facades and exterior elements of the Cathedral of Murcia, all before the fall of rubble two weeks ago of the East facade of the temple, and before the intervention of the firemen in the afternoon of yesterday by a lead plate of great dimensions that threatened to get rid of the imafronte, to which we must add the mutilation of the gothic sculptures of the door of the Apostles, weeds on the facades, etc.
Huermur points out that the Cathedral of Santa María was declared a National Monument in 1931 and currently holds the status of Cultural Interest Property (BIC), so the owner of the temple, the Diocese of Cartagena, must fulfill the obligations set by the Law of cultural heritage in relation to the effective conservation and protection of the BIC monument.
Likewise, the Directorate General of Cultural Assets of the Ministry of Culture must ensure compliance with current legislation, since it also has on its table various complaints of Huermur in relation to the facades of the Cathedral.
For all this, Huermur's concern for the Cathedral monument is more than justified, since it is the most emblematic asset of the city and its main hallmark, and therefore the authorities must pay the utmost attention to its preservation.
The conservationist organization indicates that it will demand that the reports of the last interventions and restorations that have been carried out in the Cathedral's monument be made public, in order to know what type of interventions and works were carried out on the most important cultural asset of the city of Murcia.
Anti-pigeon nets that are not repaired.
In the same sense, Huermur indicates that in September 2017 also reported to the Ministry of Culture the poor condition and breakage of the anti-pigeon protection network of the main facade of the Cathedral of Murcia, since not being in the due to conditions, these animals are being caused to nest in the rich sculptures of the imafronte and their acid excrements are eroding the stone.
Some breaks in the network, point from Huermur, that today and almost a year later continue without being repaired.
Therefore, they urge Culture to act once and for all to put an end to these situations, and demand that Murcia City Council be involved in the protection of historical and cultural heritage.
Finally, Huermur insists that if the heritage of the city center and that is in view of everything in the world is in these conditions, nobody can get an idea of the worrying state of conservation of the historic heritage of the garden of Murcia.
