José Ballesta visits the new shading facilities installed in the Jardín de las Tres Copas, the Fofó Park and in the children's area of Calle Sol de Torreagüera.
The City Council combines the most modern covering systems, which reduce the temperature by several degrees, with the natural shade projected by large trees, providing an average of 100m2 of shade in each children's play area.
The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, and the Councilor for Modernization of Administration and Urban Development, José Guillén, visited the new children's play areas that have been provided with shade in the gardens and parks of the city and districts.
Specifically, they visited the new shading facilities installed in the Three Cups Garden, the Fofó Park and in the children's area of Calle Sol de Torreagüera.
The City Council has installed innovative shade systems in more than thirty parks and gardens over the past three years and continues to work to respond to requests made by families and neighbors, who demand the expansion of surfaces with shading in outdoor recreation spaces, so that children can play during the hottest months, protected from solar radiation and high temperatures.
For this, the Park and Garden Service combines the most modern covering systems-pergolas and micro-perforated tensile structures that reduce the temperature of the playing area by several degrees-with the natural shade projected by large trees, providing an average of 100m2 of shadow in each children's play area.
In addition, each and every one of the new children's play areas that are projected are designed with a previous shadow study that guarantees at least 50% of space protected from the sun's rays over its entire surface.
After the commissioning of the new systems installed, the City Council, through the Plan of Peripheral Districts and Neighborhoods of the municipality of Murcia, will execute in the coming months a battery of new actions aimed at increasing shaded areas.
School playgrounds protected from the sun's rays
Also, different actions are carried out to increase the shaded area in school playgrounds of various schools in the municipality, also combining the natural shade of the trees (mainly mulberry trees have been planted) with structures and pergolas.
The last schools to benefit from these actions have been the CEIP Juan XXIII in the neighborhood of Ranero, CEIP San Juan, CEIP Ntra. Mrs. of La Paz, CEIP Felix Rodriguez de la Fuente in the neighborhood of El Carmen and CEIP Sacred Heart in Zeneta, with a budget of € 45,000.
The City Council, through the Department of Education, Relations with Universities and Heritage, plans to continue implementing pergolas and shaded areas in more schools in the municipality over the coming months.
