Now Murcia demands that Ballesta values the reopening of the San Ginés fire station (07/08/2018)

The municipal training considers that there are numerous circumstances that make it necessary for there to be a third fire station in the municipality: the extension and dispersion of the territory;

the construction of new commercial and residential areas in El Palmar-La Alberca (Murcia-Cartagena motorway) and in the district of San Ginés, or the frequent transit of dangerous goods, in addition to serving another wide and 'delicate' area such as the polygon industrial West

Angeles Micol remembers that the two fire stations of the municipality are located "to the East of city, reason why the zone West does not count on a specific park, which, as we have seen in the fires of the last days in the garages of Latbus and in La Alberca, it's a handicap "

NOW MURCIA demands that Ballesta assess the reopening of the fire station of San Ginés, closed in 2010 with the unfulfilled commitment of the PP to study every 6 months its implementation.

The councilor Angeles Micol considers that there are numerous circumstances that make it necessary to have a third fire station in the municipality: the extension and dispersion of the territory;

the construction of new commercial and residential areas in El Palmar-La Alberca (Murcia-Cartagena highway) and in the district of San Ginés, or the frequent transit of dangerous goods along the same highway.

The mayor recalls that "a municipality as extensive and with a population as widespread as that of Murcia, only has two fire stations, Infante and Espinardo, the two east of the city, leaving the West of Murcia without a specific park , which has become dependent on the Fire Extinguishing Consortium (based on Sewer), which means that before any incident in this area municipal firefighters will have to move from the centers of Espinardo and Infante with the consequent loss of time and agility in logistics. "

Micol stresses that "this situation described is precisely what has happened in recent days with the fire at the facilities of the garages of Latbus and with the fire in the hamlet of La Alberca, a fire that required the contribution of other municipalities , despite being installations and areas without hazardous or highly flammable materials, something that can happen instead in the industrial estate West, where the closed fire station of San Ginés is located, or on the Murcia motorway -Cartagena ".

Regarding the industrial estate, the councilor points out "it has about a thousand companies and some of them at risk because of the material they work with, which is why it has always been advisable to have a fire station nearby. from the park of San Ginés we reached the industrial warehouse furthest away in less than four minutes, a much shorter time than the necessary one coming from Alcantarilla, where the Consortium is located ".

As for the Murcia-Cartagena motorway, Angeles Micol recalls that according to the Transmur Plan of dangerous goods there are numerous trucks loaded with highly flammable material from the Escombreras refinery, "on a stretch of the highway with a curve and a steep slope. for being the descent of the Port of the Chain ".

A zone, in addition, in which the urbanization and the great commercial zone of Montevida (El Palmar-La Alberca zone) has been located.

"The recent construction of this new commercial zone and the beginning of the construction of the new urbanizations on the margins of the highway," he emphasizes, "as well as the upcoming construction of the San Ginés shopping center, make the circumstances change, and it becomes necessary to value the opening of the fire station of San Ginés ".

The fire station of San Ginés served the industrial zone of the polygon and the districts of El Palmar and Sangonera la Verde, as well as the Costera Sur and the Campo de Murcia.

In 2006, it carried out a total of 270 services in just 9 months, that is, more than one a day.

When the fire department of San Ginés closed in 2010, the Corporation undertook to study its reopening every 6 months, "something that has never been accomplished," affirms Angeles Micol.

"From Now Murcia we believe that it is time to fulfill the promise and consider the reopening of this park, taking into account the new circumstances of commercial areas and hundreds of new homes on the margins of highways with dangerous and highly inflammable goods circulation."
