The works comprise more than 117,000 trees, the mowing of grass meadows equivalent to 1,250 football fields, 50,000 flower plants and 5,000 improvement interventions in parks, playgrounds and gym equipment.
"Nearly 200 people participate in this special device so that these public spaces, places of coexistence and family leisure, are in perfect condition so that Murcia can enjoy them on their return from holidays and at the September Fair," said José Ballesta.
The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, together with the Councilor for Modernization of Administration and Urban Development, José Guillén, visited the Silk Garden this morning, where part of the work of the Special Summer Plan for Parks and Gardens is being developed , thanks to which the City Council are carrying out more than 100,000 actions in the green areas of the city and districts.
"About 200 people participate in this special device that involves the development of the 3,000 green areas of the whole municipality, representing 3 million square meters," said José Ballesta, who added that "the goal is to take advantage of the summer to that these public spaces, places of coexistence and family leisure, are in perfect condition at the end of holidays and coinciding with the celebration of the September Fair ".
Between the works that are executing stand out the treatment, revision and pruning of the more than 117,000 copies of arbolado that depend on the Service of Parks and Gardens, the replacement of 50.000 plants of flower, the mowing and payment of the prairies of grass equivalent to 1,250 football fields and 5,000 improvement interventions in playgrounds and fitness equipment.
Treatments on 20,000 trees
Between June and September, treatments are being carried out on 20,000 trees, including biological procedures with sampling of insect traps.
It has already begun to act in more than 200 pines and 250 eucalyptus trees.
The method is to apply a substance to trees, without causing any damage and helping to conserve the environment.
Mowing and fertilizing grass, equivalent to 1,250 football fields
Also in summer the work of mowing and fertilizing the lawn intensifies, since in this season it grows with a greater intensity than during the rest of the year.
Until September, it is planned to harvest 10,773,000 m2 of grassland, equivalent to approximately 1,250 football fields.
Among the districts where most work will be La Alberca, Churra, Guadalupe, Bacons Bridge, Cabezo de Torres, El Puntal, El Palmar.
Replenishment of 50,000 flowers
One of the jobs that requires more resources is the flower replacement campaign, which began in mid-July and is in full force.
In the summer campaign 50,000 units will be replaced, so that the gardens can offer an attractive and well-cared image, both to tourists and to all the residents of Murcia.
Cleaning of all pipicanes and 4,000 interventions in fountains and lakes
The 46 canine recreation areas will be cleaned and disinfected with a frequency of 3 weekly visits and 4,000 interventions will be carried out to control sources and lakes.
Review of more than 700 unique trees in the municipality
In addition, they are reviewing more than 700 unique trees in the municipality.
These inspections are carried out by external specialists and municipal technicians, who pay special attention to the heat waves suffered by the municipality, since the high temperatures affect the trees, specifically, the ficus because of their large size.
Palm pruning
With the arrival of summer begins the pruning of one of the most noteworthy elements of the green areas, the palm trees.
They are going to eliminate the dried palms, as well as the fruits that can fall to the public road of about 20,000 copies distributed between the city and districts.
In a special way this work is being developed where there is a greater concentration of these specimens, such as the Palm Grove of Santiago and Zaraiche.
Renovation of irrigation facilities
The irrigation facilities, essential to ensure the good condition of the gardens, record 7,000 maintenance actions for sprinklers, diffusers, pipes and valves.
More than 5,000 repairs of banks and playgrounds
The maintenance of the parks and gardens also includes numerous repairs of the elements of civil work and furniture that, in some cases as a result of the passage of time, and, in others, by actions of vandalism, make necessary the intervention of the painting equipment and the arrangement of banks, playgrounds and gerontogimnasia.
The estimate is to perform 5,161 specific actions this summer.
The shock plan team
This plan of shock has up to 200 workers that make up special teams composed of engineers, painters, cleaning workers (who remove weeds from beds and garden areas), pruning (which check the trees of the area to be treated and eliminate those dangerous branches or that bother to the step), of gardening (that work in the clipping of shrubs, subscribers, replantings, mowing, replacement of shrubs and trees), of civil works (for repairs of elements of civil work directly related to the gardens ), children's games and locksmith (for the repair and inspection of children's games and furniture to avoid dangerous elements) and plumbing.
