Reconverting the walls of the Old Prison, the trace of this space of repression, and housing a large vertical urban garden in its perimeter is the essence of the academic work with which Jesús Escribano Martínez (Murcia, 1991) has completed his degree in Architecture in the Polytechnic University of Cartagena.
The final work of career of the student of the UPCT, directed by the architect Maria José Muñoz Mora, suggests thus to conserve the memory of the Old Prison of Murcia but transforming the old penitentiary corridor into a space of community meeting through the horticulture.
"The idea is that the recovery of the space is centered in the huerta of Murcia, key in the cultural identification of the inhabitants of the municipality and in the history of the city", explains the young architect.
Based on innovative techniques such as hydroponic crops, the student of the School of Architecture bases his proposal for the rehabilitation of the provincial prison in the vegetable garden and gastronomy, locating agri-food R + D + i laboratories within the space, as well as spaces for exchange and marketing.
