Artificial intelligence is put at the service of visitors to the city of Murcia (03/08/2018)

The City Council launches a chatbot, which will offer information on the main points of interest of the city, recommend tourist routes and guide on the best gastronomic and cultural offer.

Communication is activated by sending an SMS message with the text 'Hello' or via Telegram.

Next autumn will be available the new version of the App "TuMurcia", which also incorporates a chatbot integrated into the web and municipal social networks that will be triggered 'talking': "OK, Google, I want to talk with TuMurcia".

Visitors from the city of Murcia will now have an ally that will improve the care they receive.

For this, the City of Murcia, through the Councils of Economic Promotion, Culture and European Programs, and Modernization of the Administration and Urban Development, directed by Jesús Pacheco and José Guillén, respectively, has a new tool: intelligence artificial at the service of tourism.

Specifically, a chatbot is set up, which, due to its great communication capacity, will offer a conversational environment between a user and this system that, through natural language and artificial intelligence recognition technology, can maintain a coherent dialogue.

In this sense, José Guillén has highlighted the progress that Murcia is experiencing in its transformation into a Smart City.

"Projects like this allow us to go one step further in our goal of smart city, where cities" speak "and communicate with their citizens and tourists, taking advantage of the continuous progress of technology and the benefits offered by ICTs," he said. Guillen.

For his part, Jesus Pacheco has highlighted the advantages of new technologies in tourism, since 'this system can be available 24 hours every day of the week, so that the result can be an excellent tool to contribute to improve the experience of tourists and professionals visiting the city of Murcia ', explained Jesús Pacheco.

Inform, recommend and guide

In practice, the chatbot will offer information on the main points of interest of the city, recommend tourist routes, guide on the gastronomic offer, on where museums and theaters are located, and provide information on public transport, among other contents.

The service will work through the SMS channel to ensure that it is as accessible as possible, since the text message is a standard in GSM communication and all mobile phones have the ability to send and receive this type of communication.

Smart Tourism

The chatbot is not the only Smart Tourism project in which the City of Murcia works.

In addition to this, we can add the DMO program to complete Google Maps with fresh content and accurate information about local points of interest (POI) and business, and improve your online presence with panoramic images of Street View.

Likewise, the Department finalizes a web of independent reservations that allows the client to choose, buy and pay for the tourist package that is offered in a few simple steps, in addition to the enabling of a mobile application of the warning system activated by GPS that warns of the proximity of a monument or place of interest.

Other innovations completed by the City Council are the interactive tourist information points, converting hotels into information centers for travelers, along with the implementation of a survey system for hotel clients so that they can assess their experience in Murcia through of interactive points of tourist information or the commercialization of tourist packages in social networks.

'I want to talk with TuMurcia'

The chatbots will mean an authentic revolution for communication between people, as well as between institutions and citizens and this is involved in the City of Murcia, through the Department of Modernization of Urban Administration and Development, directed by José Guillén , who advances that 'next autumn will be available the new version of the App "TuMurcia", which incorporates a chatbot integrated into the web and municipal social networks.

This system will not only communicate through text messages, but will also make the Murcia City Council the first to have a chatbot integrated into the Google Assistant and Google Home.

This innovative application arrived in Spain last June and has the peculiarity that the entire conversation is produced through voice commands.

In this way, with "TuMurcia" the citizens' will not only be able to communicate with the City Council 24 hours a day, but they will do it "talking", with free hands and in the quickest way possible.

They will only have to say: "OK, Google, I want to talk to TuMurcia", advances Guillén.

Also, another of the initiatives of modernization of Murcia, 'BlaBup, the city that speaks', will soon have a chatbot that will allow access to the different audioguides of Murcia, as well as the audios of citizens from the virtual assistant itself.

Blabup is not just an audio guide, it also functions as a social network in which all people can geolocate their own audios and share them with their friends.
