The City of Murcia, through the Department of Infrastructure, Public Works and Services directed by Rebeca Pérez, has restored the lanterns of the Old Bridge of Murcia, which have an age of 90 years.
In addition, the bulbs have been replaced by LED lights and the plinths and columns that were damaged have been renewed.
In this way, CO2 emissions are reduced by 6 tons per year and consumption decreases by 63%.
The power of the previous lighting meant an annual consumption and expenditure of 15,500 kWh and 2,800 euros.
With the new lighting, the total power is 2,400 kWh and an annual cost of 420 euros.
In this intervention, the City of Murcia has also taken the opportunity to eliminate some records located on the side of the bridge and that disfigure the environment.
This action has been carried out with the authorization of the Directorate General of Cultural Assets of the Community and the total cost of the repair amounts to 17,860 euros.
The lanterns of the Old Bridge
They are close to 90 years old, since they were installed with the remodeling that was done because of the suppression of the passage of the tram by the bridge, at the beginning of the 20th century, according to the report prepared by the technicians.
Precisely, due to the age of the installation, the oxidation of the lanterns has occurred, probably as a result of humidity, which is why it is essential to carry out these actions to restore their original conditions.
