The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, together with the Councilor for Social Rights and Development Cooperation, Conchita Ruiz receive in the Plenary Hall the Sahrawi children of the camps of Tindouf and their host Murcia families.
These are between 10 and 13 years old, many of whom repeat their stay, who will remain here until the end of August.
In total, 19 children from the Saharawi refugee camps of Tindouf (south of Algeria), will spend the summer with host families in Murcia, in total 18, through the association Sonrisa Saharawi Region of Murcia.
"In total, they will spend the summer in the Region 77 minors, of which 19 have been welcomed by 18 families of the municipality of Murcia," stressed Conchita Ruiz, who added that "it is small between 10 and 13 years Many of them repeat their stay and will remain here until August. "
The priority objective of this reception program is to reinforce the state of health of these children who, in the refugee camps, receive a very basic diet, so they can present nutritional deficits, as well as avoid the harsh summers at more than 50 degrees that live in the Sahara, without means and in the middle of the desert.
At the same time, children acquire new knowledge and learn Spanish.
In addition, the program helps to raise awareness about the situation of these children, not only of the host families and their environment, but also of the whole of Murcia society.
Experience indicates that both families and children, after a period of initial adaptation, value the experience very positively.
Most of the children repeat and also acquire a good level of Spanish.
