The City of Murcia will attend the call for the Queen Letizia 2018 Awards, whose purpose is to reward continued work in the field of universal accessibility.
The Plenary of the Corporation to be held next Thursday will adopt this agreement, which has already been approved unanimously in the Committee on Employment, Social Rights, Education and Culture.
The award recognizes work on the universal accessibility of people with disabilities to the physical environment, education, leisure, culture, sports, transport, tourism and new information and communication technologies.
The City Council attends this call because it is considered an ideal instrument to raise awareness, both nationally and internationally, of the actions being carried out by the different municipal areas in favor of universal accessibility for people with disabilities residing or traveling in the city. municipality of Murcia.
For the awarding of the Queen Letizia Awards, they take into account criteria such as the realization and development of programs designed for social and occupational care and integration in the educational, occupational, leisure and free time and cultural fields, and actions aimed at procuring the accessibility to information technologies.
Likewise, the measures of access to transport, the urban environment, sports practice, buildings and official services, information, cultural offers and leisure activities will also be assessed.
Finally, the award will recognize the application of technical means aimed at achieving personal autonomy of people with disabilities in their family, social, educational and work environment.
70 objectives of the Universal Accessibility Plan
One of the most important actions carried out by the City Council in this area is the development of a Municipal Plan for Universal Accessibility, promoted by the Department of Social Rights and Development Cooperation, in whose draft 50 disability entities have participated. has had the advice of CERMI Murcia.
The document includes actions on public roads, transportation, tourism, sports or traffic, among others, and establishes a period of two years for its execution.
To meet this objective, the available budget exceeds 4.5 million euros, whose destination will be to finance the 300 specific actions divided into 10 strategic areas, which will enable the 70 objectives to be met.
