The Councilor for Traffic and Public Safety, Lola Sánchez, met this morning with Professor Manuel Navarro Bernal, PhD in Physical Sciences and coordinator of the Applied Geophysics Research Group at the University of Almeria, who has actively participated in the Analysis of seismic risk in Andalusia, led by the team that is developing the Local Seismic Risk Action Plan.
The works are scheduled according to the schedule and the first phase of the plan will be ready next January and corresponds to Murcia capital and districts bordering Espinardo, El Puntal, Cabezo de Torres, Churra, Santiago and Zaraíche, Zarandona, Bacons Bridge, Santiago El Mayor and San Pío.
Phase two consists of the districts of the south coast, phase 3 of the districts of the garden and phase four of the districts of the field.
In addition, the meeting agreed to hold a conference with municipal technicians, volunteers and civil protection officials in the spring, in which experts in seismic matters to present the conclusions of this project.
Thus, seismic data collection and cartographic, geological, geophysical and population data have already been carried out.
And nowadays we are working on the study of seismicity and tectonics of the municipality, the geological and geophysical microzonation analyzes are carried out, the vulnerability of the constructions is studied and the seismic damage scenarios are defined.
The main objective of the plan is to know the existing seismic hazard in the Municipality of Murcia, estimate the vulnerability in buildings, infrastructures and services, and give a quick and effective response to minimize possible damage to people, property and the environment, and foresee, with a municipal organization, the means and resources, material and human, that could be required for the assistance and protection of the population in the event that a seismic catastrophe affects the municipality of Murcia.
