The exhaustive revision works that are being carried out in the trees of the Floridablanca Garden have allowed us to detect a slit in the branch of a ficus that presented risk of falling.
A month ago the Floridablanca Garden was closed for a few days to analyze the state of the trees, which showed no anomaly.
Due to the high temperatures of these last days, the garden was closed again 24 hours in a preventive manner so that the technicians could inspect the branches again, finding this fissure in a ficus.
"We have acted on time and the protocols have worked correctly to guarantee the safety of all Murcia" José Guillén remarked
The Department of Modernization of the Administration, Urban Quality and Participation of the City of Murcia strives to ensure the safety of all residents who walk through the gardens of Murcia.
The Floridablanca Garden has been closed for a few days to inspect all the trees branch by branch and eliminate any damaged or susceptible to cause a security problem.
These works concluded with a favorable result since no anomalies were found in any tree.
Due to the heat wave of recent days, the garden has been closed again for 24 hours in a preventive manner so that technicians could inspect the branches again, finding a fissure in a ficus.
Thanks to these exhaustive revision works that are being carried out on the trees, they have allowed us to detect a slit on a branch of a ficus tree that presented risk of falling.
Technicians believe that the fissure has occurred in recent days because of the intense temperatures.
This heat wave, along with the lack of rain, affects the trees, "that is why we have reviewed each tree, a month ago the ficus did not present any fissures and thanks to a second revision by the technicians it has been detected and Solved the problem We have acted on time and the protocols have worked correctly to guarantee the safety of all Murcia. In these cases, the effectiveness of the professionals is fundamental "commented José Guillén.
The inspections have been carried out by external specialists and municipal technicians, who pay special attention to the heat waves suffered by the municipality, since the high temperatures affect the trees, specifically the ficus because of their large size.
In addition, the Parks and Gardens service makes daily batches through the gardens to visually check the condition of the specimens, although the technical work of height is carried out every six months approximately.
Sensors in the ficus
The ficus of Santo Domingo and Floridablanca monitor their status in real time guaranteeing security to the residents of Murcia.
In addition to the periodic inspections and daily supervision by the technicians of Parks and Gardens, new technologies are added to inform of the real-time status of these specimens.
Specifically, in the Floridablanca Garden there are 10 sensors that increase security controls reporting humidity in the environment of the tree, temperature, irrigation, soil moisture, as well as foliar.
"This pioneering initiative, since it is the first time in Spain that is carried out on ornamental trees, allows us to have enough data to determine a historical and predict situations of tree stress and minimize risks" remarked José Guillén.
The technology used to take the constants and monitor the data of the tree is a state-of-the-art technology of Smart Cities (Internet of Things) where a device of low energy consumption stores the constants of the tree every minute , and sends them to a system in the cloud where all the data is stored.
These data are sent through a wireless system of low consumption and can be monitored through the fixed or mobile devices of the technicians of the City of Murcia.
This monitoring system is one more element of MiMurcia's solutions as an information and sound integration platform for the different services of the City of Murcia.
The devices are designed to be powered by solar energy and also have a last generation design that allows them to have a minimum energy consumption, and a minimal impact on the environment.
