The former student of the UCAM realizes his doctoral thesis in the United Kingdom, in a university that counts on the best laboratory of investigation in this matter, where it enjoys a scholarship of three and a half years.
At the age of 29, Jorge Pérez, graduated from the UCAM in the Degree in Civil Engineering and the Master in Road, Channel and Port Engineering, completes his doctoral thesis at Exeter, one of the European references in this type of engineering.
There he carries out his work on the isolation and active control of structures, which consists of isolating structures with several connected masses and, in addition, controlling the vibrations that such structures can have for a more optimum performance of the machines.
"Applied to practice, for example, it is used in companies that manufacture hard disks because the precision of the laser is important in economic terms or, also, in research centers, where the vibration of the laser can affect the measurements", explains about his doctoral thesis.
"The civil engineer is very well known outside of Spain"
In addition, Jorge is grateful to the Catholic University of Murcia, which holds a great memory both academic and personal: "The UCAM has given me everything, I am very grateful to the university in general, and Pedro Castrillo, Alejandro Mateo, Javier Jiménez and Pedro de los Santos in particular. "
Finally, he wanted to make a balance in engineering between the United Kingdom and Spain: "In Spain, we usually have less means than there, however, in the United Kingdom there is no engineer figure that addresses both as what it deals with here, so that outside Spain the civil engineer is very well known ".
