The Cooperation Council has approved granting a global aid of 21,000 euros to three NGOs to help mitigate the effects of the eruption of the Volcano of Fire in Guatemala.
In this way, the delivery of humanitarian aid to Guatemala will be carried out through Unicef, the Red Cross and Vincentian Cooperation for Development (Covide).
The UNICEF project consists of the delivery of family water, sanitation and hygiene kits, as well as filter supplies to purify the water;
the Red Cross seeks to facilitate access to basic services to the most vulnerable, while the Covide seeks to guarantee access to drinking water and food security.
This catastrophe has already affected more than one and a half million people.
There are 12,277 evacuees, almost 200 people disappeared and a hundred people died, according to the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID).
The statutes of the Cooperation and Solidarity Council establish the possibility of convening an extraordinary session when required.
In this sense, it should be noted that it has already been carried out as a result of previous disasters such as the displacement of land in Sierra Leone (August 2017), Peru (May 2017), Haiti (October 2016) or Ecuador (April 2016).
