The Catholic University of Murcia has graduated in Cuba, within the framework of the local community development project 'La Moneda Cubana: Training Program for Youth', which has emerged from the Old Havana Cathedral Popular Council, to about a hundred young people which have been formed with a specialization course in various areas of gastronomy and services.
This is the result of an agreement signed last year between the UCAM and the 'La Moneda Cubana' project, recognized in 2016 with the "Excellence Award".
Through this collaboration, students of the project can now enroll in the UCAM to carry out different training cycles under the advice and involvement of this University, receiving upon completion of the academic certificate that facilitates their employment.
These are young people separated from work and studies, who will be trained in the fields of cooking, gastronomy, cocktails, languages ​​or protocol.
At the ceremony held at the Hotel Manzana Kempisky in Havana, Antonio Alcaraz, Vice Chancellor of University Extension of the UCAM;
Ángel Aguilera, president of the Old Havana Cathedral Popular Council and responsible for the local community development project;
chef Eddy Fernández, president of the Federation of Culinary Associations of the Republic of Cuba;
and other representatives of the Cuban gastronomy and hospitality sector.
It should be remembered that since 2008, the Murcia institution has been providing postgraduate training in collaboration with the local Church, academic, scientific and social institutions of Cuba.
Distinction
Likewise, during the ceremony, Alberto Juan Dorta, president of the Cuban Society of Physiology, was presented with the title of extraordinary professor of Neuroimmunology by the UCAM.
