- It is a situation of "health, respect for the environment and image of the city" that needs to be addressed, which is why Now Murcia will present a motion in the Plenary on Thursday
NOW MURCIA considers it urgent to improve the cleanliness of the market of La Fama Thursdays as well as affected neighborhoods, since during the course of this weekly event and in the hours that elapses until the cleaning by the municipal services, these streets appear full of all kinds of organic waste, paper and plastics.
Alicia Morales stresses that it is a situation of "dirt and bad smell accentuated in the hot months" and explains that many of these plastics and papers move to streets and adjoining neighborhoods where workers do not arrive "and, what it is more serious, they end up in the river in many occasions, which supposes an environmental problem that is evident when the urban channel of the Segura is cleaned and a large amount of waste and plastics appear ".
The councilor affirms that it is a situation "of healthiness, respect for the environment and image of the city" that needs to be addressed, which is why Murcia will now present a motion in the plenary on Thursday.
The proposal of the municipal training establishes that the sufficient number of specific containers is placed on Thursday of the market and that the Department of Commerce responsible initiate an awareness campaign and work in collaboration with the Association of Street Vendors to solve this problem.
"From Now Murcia we share all the initiatives that serve to enhance the accessibility, benefits and image of the La Fama market," says Alicia Morales.
The mayor notes that "from the Department of Commerce have announced several times during this mandate actions aimed at modernizing and improving the weekly markets of the municipality, in collaboration with the Association of Street Vendors, without, so far, these performances have reached the La Fama market. "
The spokeswoman of Ahora Murcia recalls that the Municipal Ordinance of Squares and Markets (articles 116 and 131) expressly alludes to cleaning and stresses that sellers are responsible for cleaning the premises and should leave their spaces and waste free of , that the City Council will install enough containers in predetermined places of the market.
"All this, obviously," he concludes, "is not being carried out effectively and we believe that we must work together with all those involved to find a solution."
