One of the most anticipated sporting events of the year arrives, the Tarragona 2018 Mediterranean Games (June 22 to July 1).
The Spanish team will have 36 athletes belonging to the UCAM, which will be the university with the most representatives in this event.
Thirteen of the thirty-three disciplines that compete in the Mediterranean Games will have the presence of a UCAM athlete.
Among the competitors of the Catholic University of Murcia are some of the main favorites to get medals for Spanish sport: Mireia Belmonte, who has been designated the flag of Spain for the opening ceremony, Lydia Valentín, Eva Calvo, Sarai Gascón or Marcus Cooper are Olympic medalists and therefore are among the favorites to get on the podium in Tarragona.
But there are many more international medalists who start with important options to achieve great success in this event as Borja Vivas, Marta Calvo, José Antonio Marí, Duane da Rocha, Jessica Vall, Rodrigo Germade or Teresa Portela.
The bet of the UCAM is reflected in the large number of top level athletes who are linked to this university.
A date with a lot of history
The Mediterranean Games meet in Tarragona its eighteenth edition since they were born in Alexandria (Egypt) in 1951, being the third time held in Spain after Barcelona 1955 and Almeria 2005, and encompass the countries bathed by the Mediterranean Sea plus Andorra, Macedonia , San Marino and Serbia.
In this competition Spain occupies the third position of the historical medal table after Italy and France.
