The façade of the Annex Building of the City Hall will light up blue tomorrow to commemorate World Refugee Day, responding to a request sent by the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR).
The Department of Infrastructure, Public Works and Services, in collaboration with the Social Rights and Development Cooperation, led by Rebeca Pérez and Conchita Ruiz, intend to contribute to make visible and remember this cause, having a 'gesture of solidarity that pays tribute to those who , with strength and hope, overcome enormous difficulties to rebuild their lives after fleeing from violence, war, persecution and human rights violations, "explains UNHCR in its letter.
The illumination of the emblematic buildings around the world in blue, symbolizing 'the sky that unites all nations', becomes a sign of' the solidarity of cities with refugees and provides a strong visual element for attract the attention of the population and sensitize society about the situation of the more than 65 million people who have been forced to move because of persecution, war, violence and human rights violations.
For all these reasons, since 2001, on June 20, World Refugee Day is commemorated.
