In its commitment to quality research, and the promotion of innovation and the transfer of university-business knowledge, the UCAM will launch a center for entrepreneurship and innovation in health, sports and nutrition-Incubator of High Technology in Health, Sport and Food-.
The agreement to carry out this project was signed this morning at the Campus of Los Jerónimos, by José Luis Mendoza, president of the UCAM;
and Javier Collado, general director of the Incyde Foundation.
The event was also attended by Juan Carlos Izpisua, extraordinary professor of Development Biology at UCAM;
Estrella Núñez, Vice Chancellor for Research;
and Juan Monzó, general director of Universities and Research of the CARM.
Representatives of the CROEM, the Chamber of Commerce, directors of different degrees and of the research area of ​​the Catholic University as well as the Technological Institute of Murcia of the UCAM also attended the presentation.
José Luis Mendoza said during his speech that "it is essential to support research so that talents do not have to leave Murcia to work in this area."
José Luis Mendoza stressed the importance of "the university is totally linked to the business world, as UCAM has been since its inception".
For his part, Javier Collado, general director of the Incyde Foundation, has highlighted the magnificent European project of the UCAM with the implementation of this incubator.
Dr. Juan Carlos Izpisua has stressed as a fundamental fact that the knowledge generated in research is transferred to society.
Finally, Juan Monzó, general director of Universities and Research of the CARM, underlined the great impact that the areas on which the new incubator is going to work, such as health, sports and research.
Economic transformation of the Region of Murcia
The UCAM has raised 1,400,000 euros of FEDER funds for the execution of this project, which will be developed between 2018 and 2023, and is aimed at promoting the economic transformation of the Region of Murcia towards smart growth, as well as raising the improvement of the competitiveness and modernization of the incubated companies through the promotion of innovation and the transfer of technology to them.
The Catholic University of Murcia participated in the competitive public call 2018, managed by INCYDE, for the creation of 'High Technology Incubators for the promotion of innovation and the transfer of technology to micro-SMEs', being one of the 12 awarded, and the only one in the Region.
For this, he presented a project based on the extensive experience of the UCAM in business collaboration and technology transfer, entrepreneurship training and university-company collaboration in European projects.
