Monsignor Vincenzo Paglia, president of the Pontifical Academy for Life, has taught the master class under the title 'La Hermana Muerte'
The University has invested this morning 80 new doctors of the nearly 200 who have defended their thesis this year at UCAM
The Catholic University of Murcia has celebrated this morning, in the Temple of the Monastery of Los Jerónimos, the commemorative events of the feast of its patron, San Antonio de Padua.
The president of the UCAM, José Luis Mendoza, presided over the ceremony accompanied by the rector of the University, Josefina García Lozano;
the honorary rector of the institution, Antonio Montoro;
the archbishops emeritus of Burgos and Zaragoza, Francisco Gil Hellín and Manuel Ureña;
the bishop of the Diocese of Asidonia-Jerez, Monsignor José Mazuelos Pérez;
José Manuel Lorca Planes, Bishop of the Diocese of Cartagena, and the President of the Pontifical Academy for Life and the Pontifical Theological Institute John Paul II for Marriage and Family Sciences, Monsignor Vincenzo Paglia, who gave the master class .
'The Sister Death'
Monsignor Vincenzo Paglia has focused his intervention on the "end of life", and how society faces it.
On the debate about euthanasia, he affirms that it is not prudent to accelerate decisions on this issue without deepening the debate and involving the whole society.
"The freedom of euthanasia aims to become the workhorse of the progress of the rights of freedoms," he said.
In addition, he noted that "it is incredible that you do not see the contradiction of a society that, on the one hand, technically prolongs life, and on the other, politically favors its suppression", and wondered if it would not be more prudent to reconsider seriously the way in which an entire civil society prepares itself to support the accompaniment of people in extreme conditions and in the final moment of their lives.
The prelate has lamented that in affirming "dying with dignity" one often forgets to "live with dignity".
"The right to a dignified death can not establish the right to receive euthanasia from others," and has stated that "dying with dignity does not mean anticipating death."
"An equivocal language becomes a dangerous trap," he added.
He also lamented that "in a society in which self-sufficiency is something mandatory, it is easy for dependent people to feel depressed or even think that they no longer deserve to live," which has indicated, "leads us to interiorize the exclusion to the point to justify it. "
He also said: "The request for euthanasia or assisted suicide is almost always a result of the therapeutic abandonment of the patient."
Training in Marriage and Family Sciences
In reference to the topic of the lecture, the president of the UCAM, José Luis Mendoza has highlighted, in the words of Pope Francis, that the Church is always in favor of life.
And he recalled the missionary and evangelizing work of the UCAM, "facilitating our students the encounter with God."
Mendoza recalled that the UCAM is working with the Pontifical Theological Institute John Paul II and the Lateran University in the dissemination of the sciences of marriage and family, taking this training to the most disadvantaged areas of the world through online degrees .
"This is a great benefit for many priests, lay people, etc., who want to be trained in the field of ecclesiastical and civil disciplines."
He also assured that the postgraduate course in Marriage and Family Sciences will also be taught as a double degree: official degree at ANECA level and ecclesiastical degree by the Pontifical Theological Institute Juan Pablo II.
Also, Mendoza has ensured that the institution he represents has "21 years working and contributing to the development of the Region of Murcia", and strengthening its image in the national and international.
He has also emphasized the difficulties that the University has had to face, also from the Administration, to which he has asked for "solutions and respect".
The President of the UCAM has defended human rights and the commitment to peace, and the need to help refugees;
indicating that the institution has offered itself to the Pope to welcome and train them both in the University and in their schools.
