The Department of Social Rights and Development Cooperation, led by Conchita Ruiz, has convened the Council for Development Cooperation on an extraordinary basis, on June 13, to study the delivery of humanitarian aid to Guatemala in the face of the catastrophe caused by the eruption of a volcano of fire, which for the moment has already affected more than a million and a half people.
There are 12,277 evacuees, almost 200 disappeared and a hundred people died, according to the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID).
The statutes of the Cooperation and Solidarity Council establish the possibility of convening an extraordinary session when required.
In this sense, it should be noted that it has already been carried out as a result of previous disasters such as the displacement of land in Sierra Leone (August 2017), Peru (May 2017), Haiti (October 2016) or Ecuador (April 2016).
