The ISEN, associated center of the University of Murcia, hosts the First University Forum on Health and Environment Lab, which will have as its central theme the debate on soil contamination and its effect on the health of children.
The forum has the participation, among other accredited specialists, of the professors Oscar Eduardo Tarrago, world expert in pollution and lead poisoning, and Juan Antonio Ortega García, director of the Pediatric Environmental Health Unit (PEHSU).
The contamination of soil and air is one of the most important health hazards, especially for minors, hence the need to open spaces for debate.
The forum will have as its central act a meeting at 5:00 pm on Tuesday at the ISEN headquarters.
It will involve specialists, as well as representatives of neighborhood associations and groups in defense of the environment.
The professional sessions of this I Forum on Health and Environment began on Monday with a clinical session at the Hospital Virgen de la Arrixaca with residents of the pediatric service.
Subsequently, a working meeting took place between researchers from IMIB-UMU and Dr. Tarrago.
This afternoon, at 8:00 pm, there will be a meeting with local businessmen from Cartagena at the Chamber of Commerce of Cartagena.
Óscar Eduardo Tarrago will give a lecture on environmental risks and risk communication.
On Wednesday, June 6, the forum will continue with a meeting with researchers from the Polytechnic University of Cartagena.
In the afternoon, the expert in contaminated soil will move to the towns of Portmán and Llano del Beal to visit contaminated soils.
There will be a meeting with neighborhood communities where soil lead and its influence on children's health will be discussed.
