These relationships are documented in the Municipal and Historical Archive of Murcia and even reflected by King Alfonso X the Wise himself in his famous Cantigas.

The Genoese were the first to bring silk to Murcia in the twelfth century, so they are considered within the history of Murcia as a "powerful minority integrated into Murcia society that structured the city's trade" and positioned Murcia in the international trade networks of the Western Mediterranean.
