HUERMUR remembers that in a few weeks ago there were people who agreed to the base of the Christ of Monteagudo and also that numerous facilities were placed on the slope of access to the medieval castle
The Association for the Conservation of the Garden and the Heritage of Murcia (Huermur) today urged the Ministry of Culture to coordinate with the City of Murcia to perform an emergency action on the statue of Christ of Monteagudo, which ensures its structural integrity to avoid possible damage to the medieval castle of the twelfth century declared of Cultural Interest, if new landslides occur.
The association makes this request after knowing some images in the framework of its investigation on the patrimonial complex of the Historical Site of Monteagudo, images where you can see numerous damages in the image of the Christ located in the coronation of the hill.
The photographs show loss of materials, including the lack of a phalanx of one finger and the coating of another, as well as numerous cracks, moisture, corrosion and damage to the entire statue.
From the group point out that the photographs leave no doubt about the poor state of the Christ of Monteagudo, which are added to the recent conclusion of the Master Plan, which qualified the state of the castle as "unstable and potentially dangerous", according to the document end of the team hired by the Ministry of Culture.
The entity requests that the Ministry of Culture, body responsible for ensuring the cultural heritage, coordinates with the Murcia Consistory, so that an emergency action is performed before the damage of the Christ, and thus avoid any collapse that can seriously damage the structure of the historic castle, in addition to protecting visitors who come to the area, people who conduct guided tours, and the residents of the district itself.
For the association, it is necessary that the perimeter of the hill of Monteagudo be sealed once and all the administrations of the dangerous state of the BIC castle have knowledge of it, as well as the state of the statue that crowns it.
Huermur has also requested the seal of the accesses, to avoid any damage to people or property, to the recent images that showed people inside the castle and on the pedestal of Christ, as well as the installation a few weeks ago of machinery, generators and pyrotechnics at the entrances, with numerous workers on the slope of the castle and in the cobbled area facing the Christ.
Likewise, Huermur requires from the Town Hall, the Regional Government and the Spanish State an urgent intervention on the entire heritage complex of the historical site, including the Christ of 14 meters.
From the collective they warn that "nobody is moving a finger today for the effective repair of this defensive monument of medieval times, one of the most important BIC of our Huerta and that day by day it continues to come down".
